Severe thunderstorms are possible in two main areas today: one over the Northeast and one in Deep South Texas, as shown in yellow on the above outlook from the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) in Norman, OK.
Thunderstorms are ongoing at this time in Deep South Texas, where a Severe Thunderstorm Watch was recently issued. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the primary threats in this region, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
In the Northeast, thunderstorms are forecast to develop near the Western edge of the outlook area by early to mid-afternoon and move East-Northeast with a threat of hail and wind gusts to severe limits. While an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out from any storm that is able to become well organized, this threat is not expected to be significant.
