Severe Weather Possible Portions of Ozarks/Lower Mississippi Valley Today into Tonight...

Above is the latest severe weather outlook from the SPC in Norman, OK. Severe storms are possible today and into this evening and tonight within the yellow shaded areas on the image above.  This threat of severe weather includes the cities of Houston, Texarkana, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Little Rock, Memphis and Cape Girardeau.

An upper level disturbance is moving East/Northeastward across Texas this morning, causing widespread shower and thunderstorm development ahead of it:

As the midday and afternoon hours approach, some of the activity is expected to increase in coverage and intensity near the Western edge of the severe weather forecast area.  This may occur as early as late morning across southeast and/or east-central Texas.

Some of the stronger storms this afternoon and evening may produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.  The highest risk of tornado development is within the yellow shaded area on the image below, which includes the Little Rock, Shreveport and Texarkana areas:

Folks across this region should remain alert today.  Take a few moments this morning to review your severe weather preparedness tips, as well as making sure that you have an appropriate sheltering location available should threatening weather approach later today.  Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or another trusted source for later information and possible warnings.
