First Big Severe Weather Day of Season Getting Underway

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is already in effect early this morning for portions of Northwest Texas and southwest and central Oklahoma.  Thunderstorms are already developing on a fairly widespread basis ahead of a cold front, dryline and upper-level weather disturbance that will traverse the region today.

Below is today's outlook from the SPC.  As forecast for the past several days, a widespread threat of severe weather exists from portions of Texas, East/Northeast into the Mississippi and Tennessee Valley areas:

While tornadoes are possible with any severe storm that forms in the slight or moderate risk areas today and tonight, a particularly high risk of tornadoes, some of which could be very intense, exists in the Moderate Risk area (the red outlined area in the map above) from portions of Arkansas into adjacent portions of Mississippi and Tennessee.

Residents of the severe weather outlook areas should remain alert today and listen to local media and other sources for the latest updates, watches and warnings.  The highest threat of damaging tornadoes across the "moderate" risk area will likely take place between 3pm and 10pm this afternoon/evening.
